1-2″ base – we need snow
MECCA Trails were rolled today and the trails are marginally skiable. If you need to come out, use your rock skis as the base is extremely thin, with numerous bare spots. Trails won’t be groomed again until we get at least 4″ of new snow and unfortunately there’s nothing on the forecast. We know that snow will come, so stay tuned!
Another dusting
MECCA TRAILS got 2 inches of snow over the weekend, but that’s all we have. There’s a little snow in the forecast but we’ll need to get a good storm before we can groom.
It’s also gun deer season and the trail system is completely on public lands open to hunting. You’re probably well advised to stay off the trails this week, or if you do head out for a hike, be sure to wear blaze orange.
FIRST SNOW
3-5 inches of snow over the past 48 hours with cool temps forecasted this week.
Hiking trails are open, maps are available at both trailheads.
MECCA Trails are on public lands open to hunting. Wear blaze orange.
Stay tuned for updates on grooming for the ski trails.
November Trail Report
Trails are open for hiking. MECCA’s new Hiking Map is posted at both trailheads. The Hiking Map indicates the location of the boardwalks and wetlands on Moose and Homestead. There is trail access from the Chalet Trailhead in the east to the Flowage Trailhead in the west.
Be advised that all trails are open to hunting.
Trail work has been completed this fall on Spruce Hills and Moose. Grading has been completed around the chalet.
Hazard trees removal and brushing will continue through November.
The chalet will open 8am – 6pm, when skiing and snowshoeing conditions permit. Masks will be required when in the chalet until COVID restrictions are lifted.
Trails are open for hiking
The trails from the Little Turtle Flowage Trailhead have great hikes. You can go right from the parking lot towards Voss Lake or go left across the flowage towards the cabin on the Little Turtle River. If you hike from the chalet, you’ll get wet feet. You can hike on the snowshoe trails as well. The chalet is closed for the summer. The toilets are open and inspected weekly.
Grooming Operations Suspended
Warm weather this week and rain on Wednesday have softened the trails so grooming has been suspended for the season. No new snow predicted in weather forecast. Skiing conditions poor with fast icy conditions when temps fall below freezing at night and soft wet conditions when temps rise during the day. Ski and snowshoe trails will continue to deteriorate. Thank you for coming to MECCA Trails this winter!
