Trail Report for Friday, 1-16-2026

Early morning lake effect snow continued until mid afternoon resulting in an additional seven inches of light fluffy snow.  Groomers were out all day rolling and packing the new snow in advance of the Winterfest ski races on Saturday morning.  Later tonight the race courses will receive their final groom.  Course conditions should be near perfect on Saturday however because of the new snow pole plants and skate lanes will be a bit soft.
Ski race registration is open until Saturday morning til 9 am.  The races are geared towards the beginner skier to the more advanced.  Additionally, there are three miles of snowshoe trails to be explored.
MECCA Ski Trails will be open to the general public later on Saturday afternoon after the ski races.

Trail Conditions, Thursday, 1-15-2026

Skiers will notice additional signing and pine boughs placed at intersections throughout the trail system in preparation of the Winterfest Ski Races scheduled for Saturday, 1/17, starting at 9:30 am.  Groomers will be working on the course starting later this afternoon and most likely up to race time depending on the amount of snow we are predicted to receive.  The public is welcome to ski MECCA Trails the next two days however we ask the public not to use the course on Saturday morning until after the race which will be around 1:30 pm.
Skiers can register for the MECCA 30K, Skiathlon 20K, Flowage 15K and Claire d’ Loon 5K upto 9 am on Saturday.  Course conditions will be near perfect. Refreshments, snacks and a light lunch will be provided to participants in the ski club’s new heated equipment building.  Come on out!

Trail Report for 1/14/2026

The grooming team is out this morning renovating the entire trail system while breaking up the crust created by recent freeze/thaw conditions.  In addition, the process will mix in the light snow from last night.  This will leave the trails firm, but not icy.   All trails are open for skiing but at this time there are no plans to reset the classical tracks until just prior to the Winterfest Race on Saturday 1/17/26.  The snowshoe trails are in very good condition while firm with a cover of fresh snow.

The Mercer area received a light dusting of snow early this morning which mixed in well with the ice crystals from yesterday’s grooming.  Classical tracks were left in place, the dusting of snow eliminated any left over icy spots.   Skate lanes were renovated and combed producing a great skating platform.  Overall skiing is very good at MECCA!

Friday, 1-9-26 Trail Report

Groomers worked the trail system this morning renovating the icy crust resulting in very good conditions.  Tracks were reset and skate lanes combed out.  The mixing of the icy crust has created a fast track.  Note that Spruce Hills was not groomed in the morning but will be either later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Thursday, 1-8-26 Trail Report

Outdoor recreationists have been watching the weather closely over the past few days hoping the mild temperatures will move on to more normal winter temps.  The mild temps and drizzle has not affected MECCA’s 13′ base however it has affected the skiing because of the freeze and thaw cycles causing icy conditions.  Good news is we are predicted to get below freezing temps which will allow the groomers to start working on the trail system tomorrow morning.  We anticipate new tracks will be set and the skate lanes renovated and combed by tomorrow afternoon.  Snowshoe trails are in good shape with icy sections on hills.

Wednesday, 1-7-2026 Trail Report

Yesterday Mercer experienced daytime temperatures hovering around the freezing mark with some light drizzle in the afternoon resulting in icing of the trail surface.  The next couple of days the temperatures will continue to be mild during the day into the evening with a possibility of more rain on Thursday which limits any grooming of trails.   Currently skiing is very icy and difficult to navigate . . . . groomers plan to start breaking up the ice and re-set tracks and comb the skate lanes on Thursday night into Friday morning when below freezing temperatures return. However, this morning the Wolf Loop’s tracks were reset and the skate lane renovated for previously scheduled Fe University adult ski lessons.

Trail Report – Monday, 1/5/2026

The Mercer area received two inches of snow overnight.  This morning groomers mixed new snow with the existing base of 13″ this morning which created fast conditions.  Classical tracks are deep and firm; skate lanes are level and firm.  The three miles of snowshoe trails have been very popular with visitors enjoying the deep snow and varied terrain.
