Trail Conditions for Saturday, March 21, 2026

Due the very warm temperatures and no new snow predicted in the coming days & weeks, the MECCA Trailhead Cabin will be closed for this season.  Day temps have left trails soft and sticky with icy conditions on below freezing mornings. The ski and snowshoe trails remain open as we still have a significant base even with conditions being less than desirable.  A BIG thank you to all who used the cabin and trails throughout the season.  Your support is what allows MECCA to continue to offer quality ski and snowshoeing experiences.  A HUGE thankyou to our many volunteers who are the lifeblood of the MECCA organization.  MECCA would not be able to function if it not for our great volunteers!!!

Trail Report for Thursday, March 19, 2026

MECCA groomers were out several days ago grooming and setting classic tracks only on Wolf, Moose, Homestead, Spruce Hills and Osprey.  With the warmer temperatures during the day and possible freezing temps at night, the trails will go through freeze-thaw which may cause icy conditions in the morning and very soft conditions during the day.  Skiers could expect conditions to be fair to good, depending on actual temperatures at the time.  At this point grooming is suspended unless consistent colder temperatures return to the area.  Due to extreme drifting from the last storm, Bluebird and the Voss Lake area trails will not be groomed unless posted otherwise.  The trailhead cabin will remain open at least through this coming Sunday (3/22).  Watch for upcoming postings relating to conditions and cabin availability.

Trail Report for Monday, March 16, 2026

MECCA groomers were out yesterday rolling the trails.  This morning they groomed and set tracks on Wolf, Moose, Homestead, Spruce Hills and Osprey.  Trails are in very good condition and are groomed for Classic Skiing only.   The wind is still blowing hard so please use caution in open areas which may have poor visibility at times along with significant drifting.  For your enjoyment, the trailhead cabin is open, cozy and warm!!

Trail Report for Friday, March 13, 2026

Since last night, the Mercer area received over 6″ of fresh unexpected snow.  MECCA groomers spent much of the day rolling and setting classic tracks on Moose, Wolf, Osprey, Bluebird and the Voss Lake area trails.  The groomed deck tends to be a bit soft, but overall, the trails are in very good condition.  Skiers will find light to moderate drifting in the open areas.  MECCA trails not listed and skate lanes have not been freshly renovated.  As long as mother nature continues to cooperate, the Trailhead Cabin will be open daily.

Trail Report for Thursday, March 12, 2026

Given the new snowfall and the unexpected opportunity to groom a portion of the trail system, the MECCA Chalet will be open for business starting this Friday through Sunday (3/15).  In the past 2 days, groomers have been able to renovate and reset tracks on classic lanes on Wolf, Moose, Bluebird and Otter.  None of the skate lanes have been renewed.  Other segments of the trail system are not expected to be regroomed at this time due to wetland concerns and other issues.

Trail Report for Wednesday, March 11, 2026

Mercer area received a few inches overnight which provided an opportunity for groomers to set track on Wolf, Moose, Bluebird and Otter.  Classical skiing is currently very good, skate skiing is a little rough.  Going forward the  weather predictions are calling for more snow going into the weekend.  If temps stay cold groomers may be able to produce some nice skiing surfaces.

MECCA Update — Thursday, March 5, 2026

Spring weather conditions are upon us which have  created icy conditions throughout the MECCA Trail System.  The Mercer area weather calls for moderating daytime temperatures above freezing with some rain and no significant snow in the ten day forecast.  Because of these factors the chalet will be closed for the season and no grooming will be scheduled.  However, if a significant storm delivers enough snow to groom followed by cold temperatures the club will reevaluate opening the chalet.
It’s been a great ski and snowshoe season at MECCA Trails; early skiable snow, successful Winterfest Ski Race and Candlelight Ski/Hike events; and solid attendance with local and regional support.  The grooming team recorded 80 days of grooming for the season.  Thanks for your support!

Trail Report for Saturday, February 28, 2026

The MECCA Trails are very icy.  Groomers were unable to break up the ice which developed during the overnight single digit temperatures.  Grooming was attempted on the Wolf Loop skate lanes with limited success after multiple passes. Going forward the weather predictions are calling for an extended period of freeze/thaw conditions which makes it very challenging to groom.  We will keep you posted if there is a window to some grooming.

Trail Report for Monday, February 23, 2026

Groomers are out this morning mixing the moisture starved lake effect snow the Mercer area received over the past 36 hours into the trail base.  Classical tracks will be reset and skate lanes combed.  Skate lanes may be a bit soft however overall skiing should be quite enjoyable – conditions are rated very good to excellent.
